My Heritage

Jacqueline Gerena·May 25, 2026· 2 minutes

Being Puerto Rican is something I carry with me in everything I do. It lives in the way I see the world, in the way I lead, and in the way I care for the people around me. It’s in the lessons my parents taught me growing up about hard work, resilience, and always making room for one more person at the table.

I grew up in a home where our culture wasn’t something we talked about occasionally—it was part of daily life. In the food we shared, in the way our family showed up for one another, and in the deep belief that community matters.

My parents came to this country with very little, but they carried something powerful with them: pride in who they were and a commitment to building a better life for their children. Watching their determination and generosity shaped the person I’ve become.

Today, that heritage continues to guide me. It reminds me to lead with compassion, to lift others as I climb, and to create space for voices that deserve to be heard.

Being Puerto Rican is not just part of my story. It’s part of my purpose.
And I’m proud to carry that legacy forward—for my daughters and for the generations still finding their way.

Throwback to the time I was featured in We Are Pharma Magazine -- I had to run out to my car and grab my PR flag. Yes, of course I keep one in my car.
